Photography as unique as your family
Family Photography in Bristol, Bath & Beyond
Natural family photography
No two families are the same and neither are my family photography sessions. I love to capture what makes your family special. Whether that’s a game you like to play, reading a favourite story or playing with a treasured toy. Each child makes me laugh so much and we spend lots of the time just playing to help them (and their parents) relax.
Depending on the ages of your children we will play lots of games, chat lots and plan activities to help them forget I’m photographing them.
Family photography can either be in your home or a local park (or both if there’s a local park close to your house). I love documenting your family life for you to look back upon in time to come. Sessions are generally very relaxed, with lots of games and laughter.
Many families specifically want images of them all together as even snapshots of them all together are very rare (including in my own family). I make sure that these images are not only the traditional, eyes to camera images but lots of images of you laughing together, play fights, tickling, plus any other games to show how amazing and special your family is.

Have a Question?
Deciding upon a family photographer is an important decision as you can’t get this precious time back. I have tried to answer a few questions on the right but if there is anything else you’d like to ask please get in touch
Everybody’s home no matter how small has places that I can photograph in. That may be your bedroom, standing by a window, or a lounge area. The camera that I use can photograph in fairly low light conditions and even if there is only a strip of light coming through a window, I can use it to create amazing intimate images that capture the connection between you. If you don’t want to use your own house then some clients have rented airbnb’s just for the shoot. The other alternative is photographing outside in a local park (weather permitting).
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. Consider that you may be sitting down on your bed / sofa or leaning over a cot. You also need to make sure that they are your style.
In terms of colours I would advise wearing lighter colours if possible as they are more complementary. I would also avoid anything with bold patterns, text or pictures as they can be distracting and date very quickly. When you are deciding what to wear try laying out your clothes on your bed to see how they look together.
Please don’t worry too much about tidying your house. I know what it’s like having a newborn and how just getting through each day can seem like an achievement. If the washing up isn’t done or there’s clothes to be put away it really doesn’t matter. I will only normally use 2 – 3 areas in your house to photograph in. These are the lounge, your bedroom and the nursery (if you have one). However what’s really important is finding the most beautiful light in a house. If there’s something in that area that’s distracting we can always move it out of the way.
It’s best if your baby can be recently fed when I arrive so they are contented and you are more relaxed. They don’t have to be asleep. However if they are crying or decide they need more food then we just follow their lead and photograph those moments too. They’re all part of having a newborn. The most important thing is that you as parents don’t worry. This should be an enjoyable experience where you get to spend some time appreciating your new family and just gazing at your new baby without worrying about anything.
I am happy to travel to wherever you for your newborn session. I live near Bristol and am happy to travel to you for free within approx 1 hour drive. Some examples of places I can travel to for free include:
- areas such as Bath, Swindon, Weston Super Mare, Bridgewater, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cardiff.
For other places I would simply charge a small amount to cover my additional traveling time and expenses.
About 7 – 10 days after your session I will put all of your best images into a gallery and arrange a zoom call with you to go through them. Selecting which ones you would like and which you would like displayed can be difficult decisions. This is why I will go through them with you, rate your favourites and discuss which frames would suit your home. As I’ve normally been to your home I can normally advise of suitable locations and which I think would look good.
I'd love to hear from you
